We are seeking a Media Relations Associate for a Nonprofit Human Rights Organization that focuses on civil and human rights for Asian Americans. This is a full-time, permanent, and fully remote position.

POSITION TITLE: Media Relations Associate

SALARY: $60,000-$70,000

The Media Relations Associate will primarily be responsible for developing and managing relationships with key U.S. domestic-focused mainstream, local, and ethnic news outlets, social media, ethnic media, and other channel contacts to promote the organization's focus and expertise on domestic policy efforts, producing media content, and responding to media requests and queries.

Our Ideal Candidate:

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
• At least two years of professional experience in communications.
• Experience with Asian American, civil, and human rights issues desired.
• Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
• Strong project and process management abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, CMS (WordPress, Drupal), graphics design (Canva, Adobe Photoshop), and social media platforms.

How You Will Spend Your Day:

• Build relationships with key media outlets (mainstream, local, ethnic, social media) to promote our organization's expertise in domestic policy.
• Develop and pitch stories to the media, proactively generating news coverage.
• Respond to media inquiries and manage media requests in a timely and accurate manner.
• Craft compelling media content, including press releases, statements, and social media posts.
• Provide media training to staff and community partners.
• Analyze the effectiveness of media outreach efforts and suggest improvements.
• Collaborate with staff across departments to identify media opportunities and address communication challenges.
• Support fundraising efforts by providing content for donor communications.
• Contribute to the organization's overall mission and values.
