We are currently seeking a Director of Finance and Operations for a Violence Reduction organization that is community-driven and located in Chicago, IL. This is a full-time, permanent, hybrid position that requires the candidate to work three days in the Loop office and travel to program site-based locations on the South and West sides.

SALARY: $125,000 - $140,000

This mission-driven organization is working to achieve transformational reductions in violence in Chicago by offering direct services to those who are at the highest risk of violence, advocating for policy reform to increase public investment into community violence interventions (CVI), and reforming public health systems that are not responsive to community conditions, and promoting cross-sector capacity building to achieve maximum impact.

 

Reporting to the Chief of Partnerships and Operations, the Director of Finance and Operations oversees all finance and administration, managing a team of four. The ideal candidate is a problem solver with strong relationship-building skills, open to managing unpredictable situations. They will need to travel to program sites, mostly on the south and west sides.

 

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • 7-10 years’ experience managing a broad range of finance, administrative and operational functions across corporate and nonprofit functions
  • Minimum of 5 years leading finance, tax and legal functions for a nonprofit organization
  • Expertise in managing financial activities, including budgeting, forecasting, accounting, cash flow, and reporting
  • Proficiency in accounting and reporting software (QuickBooks)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external audiences
  • Familiarity with technology and IT issues a plus
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree a plus
  • Minimum 3 years of direct Supervisory Experience
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work with a computer for extended periods of time-up to 50%
  • Ability to meet on weekends and after 9-5 hours based on needs to connect with community meetings taking place outside of normal hours of operation

 

 

How You Will Spend Your Day:

Finance

  • Provide financial oversight for the organization and be responsible for the entire range of financial management, from daily operations to high-level strategy and management
  • Oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the leadership team
  • Prepare monthly BvA statements for review with site leadership; ensure that they understand their budgets and problem-solve with them if adjustments are needed
  • Lead all financial planning and analysis on a weekly/monthly/quarterly basis, including presenting financial reports in an accurate and timely manner
  • Liaise with outsourced firms for a variety of financial services (fiscal sponsor for some employees, payroll, insurance coverage)
  • Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors
  • Proactively present critical financial matters and provide strategic guidance to the Leadership Team

 

Human Resources

  • Work collaboratively with the Director of People Operations to ensure the accuracy of payroll and benefits upon onboarding and offboarding
  • Primary contact between HR Operations and fiscal sponsor, which impacts staff increases and department allocations
  • Review and recommend best-in-class policies that impact organization operations and finance in areas such as risk management, fleet management and worker’s compensation with an understanding of the unique culture, work and dynamics of The Organization
  • Work with senior management to ensure a dynamic, team-focused culture that encourages and respects multiple perspectives and sets clear organizational goals

 

Legal

  • Manage relationships with outside corporate and not-for-profit counsel
  • Review all contracts and agreements and seek outside legal advice when needed
  • Proactively escalate any issues that may require legal support
  • Support board meetings

 

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Responsible for compliance with all state and federal rules governing Private Operating Foundations
  • Regularly monitor potential situations that may result in financial or reputational risk
  • Work closely with its outside insurance broker to create annual risk management plan and secure appropriate levels of insurance coverage
  • Provide technical assistance as needed to partner organizations around their fiscal and operational deficiencies to manage The Organization’s risk by association
  • In addition to leading these functions for The Organization, the Director of Finance and Operations will be expected to support basic monthly financial functions for MADE, which is The Organization‘s currently dormant for-profit entity
