Job Title: Clinical Veterinarian - Primate Breeding Facility (IVF Specialist)

Location: Sunny Miami Florida 

Compensation: $155,000- $190,000 depending on experience level and training


Job Summary:

The Clinical Veterinarian at our Primate Breeding Facility serves as an IVF Specialist, playing a pivotal role in the implementation of assisted reproductive technologies (ART) for our primate colony. This position involves collaborating with research and breeding facility staff to develop and execute IVF protocols, conducting routine health assessments, monitoring colony health, overseeing animal welfare practices, and utilizing ultrasound expertise for reproductive evaluations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in laboratory animal medicine, with specific expertise in primate care, reproductive management, and ultrasound imaging.

In this role, you will have the rare opportunity to provide clinical medicine in a number of key areas that you do not see typically: Obstetrics, Pediatrics, IVF/ART, Behavioral practices ensuring low-stress environments for breeding females, Geneology, and sound preventative medicine practices.  All of this coupled with aiding the upstream creation of treatments of Covid, HIV, Stage 4 Cancer, and potentially having access to CRISPR technology to further human and animal medical outcomes. 


Key Responsibilities:

1. Collaborate with breeding facility staff and research personnel to develop and implement IVF protocols for primate colonies.

2. Perform routine health assessments, physical examinations, and reproductive evaluations using ultrasound imaging techniques to monitor overall health status and reproductive health of primates.

3. Provide veterinary oversight and support during IVF procedures, including oocyte retrieval, sperm collection, and embryo transfer, ensuring the welfare and safety of animals involved.

4. Conduct surgical interventions and anesthesia management as needed for IVF procedures, in collaboration with veterinary and research teams.

5. Oversee environmental enrichment programs and behavioral management strategies to promote the psychological well-being of primates undergoing IVF procedures.

6. Conduct regular rounds and inspections to assess colony health, identify potential health issues, and implement corrective actions.

7. Maintain accurate and detailed medical records for all animals under veterinary care, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

8. Participate in developing and reviewing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to IVF procedures, animal care, and veterinary practices.

9. Provide training and guidance to facility staff on proper animal handling, restraint techniques, and health monitoring protocols related to IVF procedures.

10. Collaborate with research investigators and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) to ensure compliance with animal welfare regulations and ethical standards.

11. Participate in emergency response procedures and provide veterinary support during animal emergencies or adverse events related to IVF procedures.


Qualifications:

- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD) degree from an accredited institution.

- Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in the jurisdiction where the facility is located.

- Board certification or eligibility in Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM or equivalent) preferred but not required

- Proficiency in ultrasound imaging techniques for reproductive evaluations and diagnostics.

- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

- Commitment to animal welfare and ethical standards in research and animal care.

- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
